Jolla & SD card
« on: November 30, 2013, 02:54:56 PM »
Hey, has anyone been able to use an micro SD card with Jolla? I haven't and I have a 8GB card, which is working well in other devices... Just wondering if I am the only one who hasn't been able to make it work..

I have added a 32 GB card with content (pictures and videos), these have been made visible in the gallery. I've been trying to select the external memory card for my music streaming caching (android app Wimp), however I haven't seen the external memory card available from within Android app.

I can also access it in developer mode via terminal but it isn't showing up if I connect to a computer.. At the moment the card holds some of the Android stuff but I cannot seem to find the card in any of the applications. For example it would be nice if we could choose where to save the pictures taken...

Edit: Maybe the card won't show up in Android apps because the limitations...

This seems to be the case. I have also noticed some irregularity with the device recognising the sd card in the gallery. There seems to be a real need for a native file manager. :/

I have the following situation at the moment:

- SanDisk Ultra 64GB Micro SDXC
- exFat filesystem
- the card works fine on Nokia, Samsung GSĪ and PC
- another SD-card works fine on Jolla: SanDisk 2GB Micro SD

However 64GB card should work based on the specs provided by GSMArena:
http://www.gsmarena.com/jolla_jolla-5457.php

The official specs do not say a word about the possible maximum size of the Micro SD card
http://jolla.com/#specs

I am working on this (try to format the card to fat32)

I have read a Q&A before that said exFAT is not currently supported.
But it also said they tried a 64GB card in the Jolla.

I can not find the link... maybe it was on jollatides twitter but I am not sure.
If someone find it, please post it here.

Still, even this one has trouble recognising the sd card... :/

Makes sense !
Jolla uses BtrFS and so should have no problem recognising a BtrFS card ;)

The thinks I found out:
  • if you insert or remove the sdcard there is now popup or notification
  • fat(msdos) formatted sdcard worked, I copied some mp3s on it, and the where shown in the Media-Player just seconds later
  • connecting the phone to my mac OSX copmuter does not mount the jolla phone or the sdcard on my computer
The thinks I ant to know:
  • On witch path is the sdcard mounted ?
  • can android apps acces the sdcard ? The normal /mnt/sdcard looks like the onboard android storage of the phone

Technical data regarding SD card support in Jolla (as of dec. 15)
« Reply #13 on: December 15, 2013, 08:48:29 PM »
Q. What SD card can be used?
A. SDXC.

Q. What filesystems does OS/SD card support?  FAT/FAT32/NTFS/Reiser/Ext4/btrfs, etc?
A. Afaik atleast fat/fat32/ext3/ext4/btrfs/fuse (with fuse you can compile support for custom propriatary filesystems like exfat, but thats not included on default firmware because of licensing issues)

Q. What is the maximum supported SD card size?
A. I've only tested with 64GB (as I havent gotten hands on any bigger to test for). Jolla doesn't currently support Microsoft's exFAT due licensing reasons so 64GB cards need to be formatted to use other file system like ext4 to get them working.
