Screen goes blank after boot logo
« on: March 06, 2015, 10:08:31 AM »
Hello,

when my Jolla phone boots it first shows the jolla logo and then the screen goes blank.
I've loaded the battery for several hours (all the time the screen showed an USB plug and a flash symbol, LED was slowly blinking) and I've also removed the battery for a couple of hours from the phone.
Finally tried a factory reset in recovery mode, but all that didn't help.

BTW: I'm not even sure the factory reset was all OK:
Code: [Select]
-----------------------------
     Jolla Recovery v0.2.7
-----------------------------
Welcome to the recovery tool!
The available options are:
1) Reset device to factory state
2) Reboot device
3) Bootloader unlock [Current state: locked]
4) Shell
5) Try btrfs recovery if your device is in bootloop
6) Exit
Type the number of the desired action and press [Enter]:
1

ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED! Clears everything from the device and reverts the
software back to factory state. This means LOSING EVERYTHING you have added to
the device (e.g. updates, apps, accounts, contacts, photos and other media).
Are you really SURE? [y/N] y[CLEANUP] Starting cleanup!

Is there anything else I can try before sending it back to Finland.

Greetings

P.S. Sorry if posted here by mistake, maybe this belongs to the software talk...

Have had the same recently. I've even contacted Jolla Care and they've assisted me even more but nothing I do seems to work to get it to boot again or even finish going back to factory state. So I took the plunge and now I'm sending it in for repair, again. I think that's the only option for you as well, sorry :(

Hello Vistaus,

it would be somewhat disappointing to me, if the device had to be sent back, as this would be my first Linux device (in a pile of routers, mp3-players, phones, desktops and servers) which couldn't be fixed by its owner (as long there's no hardware problem), even by some ugly hack involving some self-made serial cable or so.
That sounds very un-unlike.  :o

The device boots, it connects to WLAN, it can be reached via telnet (in recovery mode) and there's a "shell" option. This sounds quite enough to start.
As factory reset complains about the recovery image, I hoped one simple solution would be to put a new one on a sd-card and install that via telnet. Something similiar to this:
http://reviewjolla.blogspot.de/2014/10/download-jolla-factory-image-file-for.html

But before fiddling with the shell and possible losing warranty while not really knowing what I'm doing I'll better ask people who know better (which is the majority of Jolla users I think as I'm only a one-day-old ;) ).
I've written a request to the Jolla support and am still waiting for a reply.
Did that via webform on jolla.com/support. Are those the same people I'd reach via care@jolla.com?

Greetings

Whoohoo, it's alive (again)!
Just followed these step exactly: https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204709607
First try: replacing recovery-menu, doing factory reset, no success.
Second try: reboot, replacing recover-menu again, doing factory reset, no success.
Third try: doing factory reset again, no success.
Fourth try: doing factory reset again, SUCCESS  ;D.

That is because electronic devices work always the same. They don't have an own mind.
Time to change? Jolla ordered! Jolla setting up ...
