Buy a N9 : opinions
« on: February 03, 2014, 05:58:47 PM »
Hello.

I want to have a Jolla phone, but it' s too expensive for me( I'm student, I don' t have a job right now ). Looking in the Internet I found some sites that sells Nokia N9 for less than 200. My questions are:

1- If I buy a N9, in a future can I expect full Sailfish support ? I read about the Sailfish port on the N9 and is buggy for now ( No GPS, some interface glitches )

2- Nokia by the end of 2013 closed their app store. If I buy a N9, can I still get software and updates for MeeGo ?

I think that this phone fit my needs, and in the future my option will be a Jolla. Any opinions, suggestions ?

1- If I buy a N9, in a future can I expect full Sailfish support ? No, that is probably unrealistic.

2- If I buy a N9, can I still get software and updates for MeeGo ? There won't be any updates for MeeGo, although not limited to Nokia Store as source of applications.

I would be worried that pre-owned N9 in your price range may well be suffering from imminent "microUSB" connector issues and I am sure that pre-owned Jolla will find their true market value in a matter of months if that is what you really want.

I would suggest that you stick with your current phone, don't buy N9 and wait until Jolla is cheap enough and then buy Jolla, as you will have much more apps and Jolla support. Only go with N9 if you don't need modern apps, so check if current apps are enough for you.

I would go for a modern device, regardless of OS. Nokia is rumoured to release a cheap smartphone based on Android, that may be an interesting option.

The Nokia N9 was a good phone, and i would like a new one my self. The problem with the phone is the poor battery, and if you get an old phone, the battery might be useless. It is a hassle to change the battery in the phone, but it is possible.

Watch out for fake phones: I bought one from Aliexpress, that looked almost as a N9 but not excact like N9. I think the GPS was not working, and the phone did not read the SIM card etc. It might work as an mp3-player.
